Bakery style 7 Layer Bars are rich, sweet squares of chocolate, white chocolate, cranberry, toasted coconut and almond atop a graham cracker crust.
Last month we spent a few days in Waynesville, NC on vacation with some of our family. One of the things we always look forward to while on vacation is trying some new treats. We stopped in at the City Bakery one morning and I debated between two options, Danish or a 7 layer bar. I chose the latter and boy was I glad I did! Ever since we’ve been back I can’t stop thinking about that 7 layer bar.
Lucky for me this month my SRC assignment was Smells Like Brownies and she just happened to have a magic cookie bar recipe. I immediately knew I wanted to take her moms recipe and alter it to recreate my vacation indulgence. Rich, sweet squares of chocolate, white chocolate, cranberry, toasted coconut and almond atop a graham cracker crust, you’re going to love these bars. Enjoy and happy baking!
Ingredients:
6 full sheets of graham crackers, about 1/2 sleeve
2 Tbs butter
1 Tbs coconut oil
1/2 c chocolate chips
1/2 c white chocolate chips
1/2 c dried cranberries
1/4 c chopped almonds
1/4 c toasted coconut
7 oz sweetened condensed milk
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 350 and line an 8″x8″ baking pan with foil, butter the foil. In a quart sized zipper bag crush the graham crackers. In a small bowl melt the butter and coconut oil in the microwave, about 30 seconds on high. Pour the butter mixture into the bag of graham cracker crumbs and seal, mix the two by mushing the bag together. Once the graham crackers are completely coated spread the mixture over the bottom of the pan and press lightly. Evenly distribute the chocolate chips over the crust, followed by the white chocolate chips, dried cranberries, almonds and coconut. Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the top of the layers and bake for 20-25 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool in the pan 10 minutes, lift out the bars by the edges of the foil and cool completely on a wire rack. Once cooled, slice and serve.
Yields 12 bars
