Last week I was looking for food ideas for the babe online, she’s in a “I want to feed myself” mood these days. Anyway I stumbled onto this website and was perusing their finger food recipes, I decided I would bake up a loaf of bread. She loves this recipe, I think next time I will change the ratio of flour to 2 to 1 and see how it goes. Enjoy and happy baking!
Whole Wheat Bread
Ingredients:
1 1/2 c whole wheat flour
1 1/2 c unbleached all purpose flour
1/2 tbsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
3/4 c warm water
1 1/2 tsp oil
1 tbs yeast
In a large bowl combine the flour and the salt, make a well in the center and stir in the oil. In a small bowl stir together the water, sugar and yeast. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, mix it into the flour to form a dough. On a floured surface knead the dough for 10 minutes, then place in a oiled bowl covered with a tea towel for one hour. Punch down the dough and knead one more minute. Then shape it into a log and transfer it into a greased loaf pan, cover it with plastic wrap and let rise another 45 minutes. Bake at 375º for 25-30 minutes, until golden. Cool on a wire rack.
